WINTER MOUNTAINEERING
IN THE ADIRONDACKS


March 6th - 9th 2008
Join the highly qualified staff at Lord Stirling Outdoor Education Center (LSOEC) in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Learn what it takes to safely enjoy the beauty of winter in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Join our staff in a 4-day workshop in winter mountaineering and ice climbing. Participants will learn how to set up winter camps, travel and navigate in snow, use of snowshoes, crampons, and ice axes, winter survival skills, and above tree line peak ascents. Our goal is to teach participants the skills needed to safely enjoy the mountains in the winter.

WORKSHOP PREREQUSISTES:
All participants need to have multi-day backpacking and camping experience. Good physical condition is also very important, our programs are physically demanding and winter conditions can be harsh. Participants must also have a good attitude and a willingness to learn.

EQUIPMENT:
All participants must have mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe (non-technical), sleeping bag (-10 F), and winter clothing. Rental of equipment is available. All tents, cooking equipment, and technical equipment will be supplied by LSOEC. A detailed equipment list will be supplied upon registration.

INSTRUCTOR PROFILE:
LSOEC instructors have over 20 years of mountaineering experience throughout the U.S. and Internationally. All our instructors are Wilderness First Responders and Leave No Trace certified.
